Here at St George's, we aim to deliver a high-quality Modern Foreign Language provision that instils a sense of belonging and a celebration of different cultures. It aims to connect students beyond the classroom learning, through unique experiences such as Language Days, celebrating festivals and traditions around the world.
In KS2 (Year 3 – 6) we learn to read, write, listen and speak in French, using a program of engaging, age-appropriate resources from Language Angels, fostering a holistic love of languages. The structured lessons make it easy for our students to follow along and they are fun, dynamic and encourage active participation.
We use a “my turn – your turn” approach when speaking, building children’s confidence to speak in another language. We also learn about cognates to support children to decode French text easily.
Where possible, students that are fluent in other languages are encouraged to record their ideas in French, English and their home languages too.
