Trust art day 2025

Each year we welcome schools from across the whole trust to St George’s to experience a day of art. This day is a fantastic learning opportunity for both adults and children alike. Mrs Dyson leads the day to include CPD for the staff alongside a full day of art for the children. This year the focus was around using sketchbooks and watercolours. The first session was a chance for adults and children alike to explore water colours in sketchbooks. Staff were shown examples of well used sketchbooks and given ideas and models for how to encourage children to record their ideas. Children practised using watercolours in different ways and learned about the key artist David Hockney. We looked at samples of his worked and considered how he had used watercolours to create the effect of water splashing. The next session focussed on developing a final piece using the skills practised in the sketchbooks. We continued the focus on David Hockney and used his piece ‘The Bigger Splash’ as inspiration for our own canvas piece. The final painting were displayed in a public art gallery during the summer.
