Forest School

Every child at St George’s participates in Forest School on Friday afternoons. Our Forest School is an all-seasons activity that brings the awe and wonder of nature to the child. This helps them to feel a part of nature and to care for it. It is a time where children develop a deeper appreciation and respect for the natural world throughout the year in our little woodland.

Children take healthy risks in a safe outdoor environment, developing the skills of fire lighting, cooking outdoors, use of tools, knots and shelter building. This greatly builds their self-esteem and confidence and strengthens their ability to collaborate with others.

Our sessions incorporate many aspects of the curriculum as the outdoors provides an abundance of real-life, relevant leaning.  Children are scientists identifying plants, insects and birds, studying their habitats, and supporting their survival by making bird feeders and bug hotels. They explore outdoor maths using sticks for shape challenges, tower building and various mathematical games.

Making and creativity comes to the fore during our forest school sessions.
